What is Cochlear Implant?
✅ What is a Cochlear Implant?
A cochlear implant is a small electronic medical device that helps people with severe to profound hearing loss who get little or no benefit from hearing aids.
Unlike a hearing aid, which makes sounds louder, a cochlear implant bypasses damaged parts of the inner ear and directly stimulates the hearing nerve (auditory nerve) with electrical signals. This allows the brain to receive sound information in a different way.
A cochlear implant has two main parts:
✔ an external part (sound processors to wear behind the ear{BTE} OR over the ear {OTE})
✔ an internal part (surgically placed under the skin, with an electrode going into the cochlea)
These work together to help the person hear sounds and speech.
